The family is growing!

Since Smokey is an indoor cat and very active, I decided that he needed a playmate to not get bored. I met with a woman Sunday morning who gave me a "private tour" of all the cats at the local PetSmart in Hollywood. The organization who adopts out of this store is a "No-Kill" organization, which is great, as many/most shelters in the USA put pets down if they haven't been adopted in a set amount of time. This organization also requires home visits WITH the pet that is up for adoption to make sure it is a match.

I decided on two cats that liked me, to come on a home visit and was very excited to see Smokey's reaction, as there was no history about him ever being with other cats. Well, what can I say, we brought the ladies in, released them and he LOVED them. No hissing, but kissing. As one of the ladies was more interested in him than the other one, I decided to keep it. The second one was younger and just brought into the shelter, whereas the other one had been there for a while, had been on several house visits and never found a home, so it was about time for her!

Well, tell you something about pretending... that kitty was good! As soon as the lady from the organization left, she fled underneath the bed and stayed there for the last 2 days. Didn't come out to eat, nothing. I worked a lot with her to make her feel more secure and apparently something changed tonight. I woke up at 5 AM, because both of the cats were on top of the bed playing with my feet... GREAT (or not)! :) I think they are definitely going to have fun together.

And now... here she is:

Kitty Cat :-)

On Wednesday it was time for my kitty to come home!!!

So here he is... the 3rd member of our household: SMOKEY

He is a lot smaller than I had figured from seeing him crouched together in his cage, but the cutest cat ever! We share the same birthday. He was born on Nov. 9th, 2008, so on my 23rd birthday. He's been adopted once before from the shelter, but the people brought him back after 3 months. I don't know why, but he surely has a great home now!

He's possibly the most affectionate cat I ever had. He always follows us around, cuddles up to us, purrs all the time etc.. Yesterday he discovered his cat-bed (and actually slept in it) and also that sleeping on top of OUR bed is possible. The days before, he always slept underneath our bed. Well, I can already see that he likes it on top A LOT better!

Smokey is also regaining the regular cat behavior. The first couple of days he was pretty calm in the mornings.... oh well, that changed quickly! This morning he came running in the bedroom and jumped straight up on top of the bed and of course, on top of me. And then he jumped and he jumped and he jumped.... All you cat owners know how that goes, don't you!? :)

I guess the thing he loves the most right now is us not having a lot of furniture (although we finally got a dinner table & chairs & a TV yesterday). It just gives him soooo much room to play and run around like a crazy something.

Anyhow, very lovable pet!
