Breaking News...

I just returned from work and while driving by the street next to my house I saw some yellow tape that is usually not there. Passing it, I took a closer look, just to discover that this is what I usually look at when watching CSI:Miami... a crime scene! Only that this time, it is reality!

I saw several cop cars and since it's really right next to my house (not even 100 feet) and it looked like a major thing must have happened, I googled and Google tells me that two men dressed in black shot another man there around noon today. The man who was shot is in hospital in critical condition and the suspects are on the run. Well great!

I would say...

WELCOME TO THE REALITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA JEN!

Not that I feel uncomfortable now. If you move over here and informed yourself about the area, you know that crimes like that happen every single day around here. The neighborhood next to my apartment complex is mainly Black with poverty visible, so yes, I wondered several times when driving by, if crime is an issue.... I guess I just got the answer! Chances of me being hit by a bullet meant for someone else are still very low though. The possibility of getting run over by some American driving their car while on their cellphone and not focusing on the traffic is a lot higher... It almost happens every day to me. Thank God I was born with a great consciousness for my surroundings! This and fast reactions on my behalf have saved me from around 100 crashs so far... knock on wood!

Let's still hope someone will be arrested soon for the shooting.

Ich kam gerade von der Arbeit nach Hause und als ich an der Strasse neben meinem Haus vorbei fuhr, sah ich gelbes Absperrband, was sonst nicht da ist. Im Vorbeifahren schaute ich genauer hin und sah, dass es sich bei dem Anblick um das handelt, was ich mir sonst in CSI:Miami anschaue... ein Tatort! Nur diesmal eben in Realitaet!

Ich sah etliche Polizeiwagen und da es wirklich gleich neben meinem Haus ist (keine 30 Meter) und es aussah als wenn etwas groesseres passiert ist, habe ich gleich mal gegooglet und Google gibt mir die Info, dass hier zwei Maenner in schwarz gekleidet heute gegen Mittag einen anderen Mann niedergeschossen haben. Das Opfer liegt lebensgefaehrlich verletzt im Krankenhaus und die Taeter sind auf der Flucht. Na toll!

WILLKOMMEN IN DER REALITAET SUED-FLORIDAS JEN!

Nicht das ich mich jetzt unsicher oder unheimlich fuehle. Wenn man hierher zieht (damit meine ich die Gegend um Miami) und sich vorher ueber die Gegend informiert, dann weiss man, dass hier Gewaltverbrechen wie dieses jeden Tag stattfinden. Die Nachbarschaft neben meinem Apartment Komplex ist hauptsaechlich dunkelhaeutiger Abstammung und Armut ist sichtbar, also klar habe ich mich desoefteren beim Vorbeifahren gefragt, ob Straftaten hier ein Problem sind... Ich denke ich habe heute die Antwort bekommen. Die Chancen, dass mich eine Kugel trifft, die fuer jemand anderen bestimmt war, sind trotzdem weiterhin sehr gering! Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ich hingegen von einem Ami, der ohne den Verkehr zu beachten Auto faehrt waehrend er am Handy haengt, ueberfahren werde, ist weitaus groesser... Es passiert mir fast jeden Tag! Gluecklicherweise wurde ich mit einem guten Bewusstsein fuer die um mich herum passierenden Geschehnisse geboren. Dies und schnelle Reaktionsfaehigkeit haben mich bisher vor ueber 100 Unfaellen bewahrt... da klopf ich mal grad auf Holz!

Nun hoffe ich aber trotzdem, dass die Taeter dieses Verbrechens schnell gefasst werden.
